Nigerians are happy with Oluwatobiloba Amusan, the winner of Nigeria's first Gold Medal in the World Athletic Championships 2022. Amusan, maid the Nigerian flag to fly high at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States by breaking record and finishing with gold in the 100m hurdles.
Her victory is a remarkable feat and means a lot to all Nigerians. She is the first athlete to make the country proud after so many years of no breakthrough in sports.
In a viral video when she was called on the stage to receive her medal, the Nigerian anthem was playing and many Nigerians joined her to shed tears of joy. She was tearing up as she got her award and it was contagious. Many people said that was the first time the Nigerian national anthem moved them and had meaning.
People just got to find out about her old tweet that has been pinned to her Twitter page. In the 2016 tweet she noted that she is not known yet but she will "be unforgettable" in the future. She said she "will persist until" she succeeds.
Seven years later she has a world record and she has made history for Nigeria. Her victory has united Nigerians. No one cared whether she was a Christian, Muslim or whatever tribe she is from. Everyone was happy for her and celebrated her in unity.
Her achievements this week will definitely not be forgotten. We are hoping that she will keep doing great and keep breaking more records.
